Warren Ellis released a limited edition of his cult favorite prose novel, Crooked Little Vein. As of now, the only sure way to get a copy is to pry it from someone's cold, dead fingers.
“They kidnapped my girlfriend, and asked for an awful lot of money before they would even think about giving her back…”

DEAR, HEROES (I FINALLY KNOW HOW TO QUIT YOU)...
It's gotten to the point that Heroes is like the alcoholic girlfriend I constantly have to defend to my friends, knowing that I have no business in this situation. There have been incidents and continuity errors and lazy writing for, literally, years. How am I expected to stay in this situation, knowing that there's something better out there?
Yep, I think we're taking a break, Heroes. Besides, I've been seeing Battlestar Galactica behind your back. Now there's a show that knows how to treat a man. Also, Lost is looking pretty good in that skirt. Talk about backstory.

DEATH STAR OVER SAN FANCISCO (VIA CURRENT)
This is so much cooler than the new episode of Grey's Anatomy. In fact, everything is.

THEIR "A" GAME (IT'S HERE)
The third series of Skins got off to a rocky start, with an introductory episode that couldn't really be expected to pull us into anyone's life, and a second ep that I now realize was just setup for something Great. Series 3, Episode 3: Thomas was the episode that did my head in. It was Skins. The Skins I'm constantly talking about and advertising to any and everyone who will listen or read. And in the aftermath, bridging the gap between Thomas and Pandora (the title of next week's episode) is this video, which sums up Pandora and Thomas, who are completely different characters from any that have been on the show so far, but in terms of the depth and tragedy and beauty of their love story (wow, I should stop) are this season's answer to Cassie and Sid.
It's time to get this Skins Party started. (It's underground, in a cave)

BLOG ENVY
While looking for information about Heroes Volume 4, I stumbled across this blog. This guy called JGoat (although wouldn't it be impressive if he were a goat) REAMED Heroes. He called them on every bit of their bullshit and made me laugh in the process. I felt like I was reading a detailed email from an old friend. So I read what he had to say about Lost. And because I trust my old friend's opinion so much, I think I'm going to have to catch up on 4 seasons.
The last time I posted about skinheads, they were Indonesia's version of the original "working class" skinheads. The kind who championed worker's rights. Sure those skinheads are the ones who gave rise to the first racist skinheads, but I doubt most of them knew it was leading to that.
These are the other skinheads.
In Russia, over the past few years, there's been an incredible upsurge in anti-immigrant sentiment and neo-nazi groups. At the center of this is the NSO, Russia's ultranationalist "political revolutionary" party. Think of them as the Super Saiyans of Nazism (yep, that's how its spelled). The NSO subscribe to pretty much the same ideals that started the original Nazis on their way. They feel threatened by what they see as an unlawfull occupancy of Russia by immigrants of all colors. They feel that most, if not all of their socioeconomic problems can be traced back to the brown people. This isn't made any better by the low priced (often free) college education that many immigrants, especially African ones, can receive in Russia.
They've begun a massive propaganda campaign utilizing everyone's favorite political tool, online flash videos (i.e. Youtube, Megavideo, etc). But instead of slandering the names of the brown people they consider their opponents, THEY BEAT THEM TO DEATH. And then there are the training camps.
Honestly, there's nothing I could say about this that the above video couldn't say better. So watch it. Beware.

YOUNG ADULT NOVELS (AND OTHER THINGS YOU LOOK DOWN ON)
At what age do you become too old to read a young adult novel? I know people scoff heavily at the idea of reading them, even in their teens, when they are the target demographic, but honestly, I've never seen this magical cutoff point when you become too old for a form of media. As long as it appeals to you in some way, what difference does it make? I'm all for growing the fuck up and taking responsibility for your own life, but I don't get how that somehow means that cartoons and lighthearted reading are beneath you once you meet a certain age. A woman who just happens to have been molested as a child and just happens to like the Harry Potter series is not exhibiting signs of regression in order to deal with childhood trauma. Or not necessarily. She might be. But she may also just like the writing, the story, the subject matter. Maybe the part of her subconscious that is drawn to a book series about a teen wizard is really just the part of her that appreciates the themes of responsibility on a deeper level and admires the way they're introduced to their target audience through metaphors they can easily connect to and carry into adulthood. Maybe the 25 year-old artist who watches cartoons for hours a day has an indescribable creative process that you, in your infinite stuffiness just can't understand, because who's really wired exactly like someone else?
Besides, you spent so much time trying to be a grown up in every way that you drove yourself to neurosis and paranoia. You need to loosen up. Everyone says so behind your back.
