JAPANESE CARTOON

Japanese Cartoon is Lupe Fiasco's new project. It's a "band" made up of whoever he feels like working with, much like DINOSAUR! (shameless self-promotion). The Japanese Cartoon album, titled In The Jaws of The Lords of Death is on it's way. I'm damn excited.

Why even comment on this? Just watch it.

Thanks to Marvel for making this embeddable.

ITS ALWAYS BETTER WITH A LITTLE CAPTAIN (HARLOCK)

Captain Harlock, the definitive pirate king of anime, who's adventures inspired a multitude of space, pirate, and space pirate adventures, most notably (in America, at least) those of Corsair and the Starjammers (Oh! Marvel reference) and Galaxy Express 999, has been paid tribute once again. This time, the tribute comes in the form of a subtle sticker on the back of an iPhone 3G.

I rambled. This post got away from me. And I'm not gonna spellcheck it.
CONVERSE x PINK FLOYD ALL-STAR HI

This is THE Converse release I've been waiting all my life for and I didn't even know it. This exercise in perfection is being released in select stores in South East Asia. I am not IN South East Asia. FML

POPGUN

I first found out about the Popgun compilations when a friend during a daytrip to Barnes & Noble (yeah, I take those). A friend of mine found the last copy in the store, which I almost stabbed him over. To this day, I haven't read the first two (the third is being released March 29, 2009), but I've had the misfortune of getting tastes of volume 1 on the internet. I don't WANT to torrent it, that's stealing. But I'm slightly amoral, so...no I can't do that.

Anyway, Popgun is a series of American indie (technically) comic compilations featuring various authors and artists in the comics industry.

It seems worth reading. I think I will.
APPLE

Apple has nothing to do with Orange. The titled-by-fruit theme is just coincidental. With that in mind, Apple (and its sequel) is a Korean compilation of short manga (or the Korean equiv) stories by various artists/writers. I'm a fan of compilations like this because they showcase a lot talent that wouldn't be seen otherwise. And when dealing with regional talent, a compilation that will travel the world is a better medium.

Cool stuff. Check it out.
ORANGE

I picked up a copy of this graphic novel, Orange, a few weeks ago and forgot to post about it. This is me making amends. Orange, by "international manga superstar" Benjamin, is the story of a girl who goes up onto a roof to kill herself for various reasons and ends up meeting a guy. That's all I'm going to say. You should just read it and soak in the beautiful artwork and story.

GRAFFITI JAPAN

I just ordered a copy of the Graffiti Japan photography book, by Remo Camerota. It's worth picking up if you like (no, love) Japan, photography, graffiti, candid and action shots, and bright colors. I came across it by accident while Flickring images of Japan. Good thing I did.

NIKE x NARUTO

Derty Harry of DeviantArt created these mockups of Nike Dunks based on characters from the anime, Naruto. These are pretty badass, but there's a whole set of them on the artist's page.

SUGARSHOCK

I never get tired of Joss Whedon. The man has a way with words. The man plays ping pong with the English language. And he wrote Sugarshock. And Fabio Moon illustrated it. There are only three issues, but I'd sell your soul for more.

Also, Sugarshock features the best Abraham Lincoln sidestory, ever, in the history of comics.

So you should read it.

DEAD LEAVES

Okay, I don't know hot I never mentioned this before. It's been like a weight on my mind since I first saw it. Dead Leaves is like a psychotropic wet dream on film. I couldn't even describe it. And I don't have to. Read the Wikipedia entry. And watch it.

OBAMA VIDEO: DAFT PUNK TOUCHED BY ADAM FREELAND

Daft Punk vs. Adam Freeland - "Aer OBAMA" from Gold Greendot on Vimeo.

Adam Freeland (Download his song We Want Your Soul) did an Obama remix of the Daft Punk song Aerodynamic and everyone needs to hear it. The videio is stop motion and features enough vinyl toys to build an army. Check it out.

And thanks to WeLikeItIndie for letting me rip this off.
AVATAR STREET

Dustsplat at DeviantArt created this image of an alternate version of the cast of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Pretty cool. Notice that Aang is holding a fan in his mouth, Toph is holding a rock, Katara has a bottle of water, and Zuko has a lit cigarette. Just like old times, huh?

TRANSFORMING NIKE FREE 7.0

DISCLAIMER: The transforming sneaker in the above photos are bootlegs and not the official Nike release.

Nike collaborated with Japanese artist/designer Takara Tomy to create two sets (Optimus Prime and Megatron) of transforming Nike Free 7.0 sneakers. The sneakers, which look just like the photos above, but with a Nike swoosh, can be transformed back and forthe between the sneaker and robot states.
DRAGONBALL

Here's the official poster for the upcoming live action Dragonball movie (starring Justin Chatwin), coming (as it says) in April 2009. Dragonball, Dragonball Z, and Dragonball GT are all classic animes and I just hope that this movie does the franchise justice. Japan has been doing live action versions of their popular animes for years and, frankly, most of them end up as enormous planet-sized jokes.

I'm hoping for the best.

AND I'LL FORM...THE HEAD!

There were two Voltrons. One, the Lion Voltron, lives on in our hearts for all eternity as the way that "megazords" should be. The other, Vehicle Voltron, was...well, crap.

This has been the subject of countless debates, arguments, fistfights, and murders. Basically, everything you need to know about a person is tied to Voltron they prefer. It's the original Facebook versus Myspace argument. As insensitive as this sounds, maybe Rodney King was a Vehicle Voltron fan. It would explain a lot.

Where do you fall in?

REEBOK VOLTRON: LION FORCE PACK

Reebok realeased a Voltron: Lion Force PAck of 5 sneakers (quite a while a go, actually). 5 amzing sneakers dedicated to one of the greatest animated shows of all time. The sneakers are all inspired by one of the 5 robot lions that made up Voltron. And they can come together to build ine giant Voltron sneaker. Okay, not really. But each sneaker comes with a complimentary Voltron lion figure and I'm assuming those can be put together to form Voltron.
