MOVING DAY!!!

I'm moving my blog to Wordpress. I know, it's going to be hard to remember another URL, but look on the bright side. You're the only one who reads this anyway.

KANYE WEST...

...Is A Robot. So the story goes that whenever Kanye works with Complex Magazine (pretty often, actually) he insists on having a cover (Isn't that just like him?) and usually one of his own imagination. This time is no different.

For the April/May issue of Complex, Mr. West has decided to depict himself as a robot. You know, because he's all futuristic and shit and tends to go off the rails like a Cylon demanding equal pay. So Marc Ecko and company (literally) gave the man what he wanted. There's also an article on the future of Kanye West, the man, the brand. And since its the 7th Anniversary issue, Complex will be dealing with their own bright future as they move into year 8. Most 7 year-olds aren't saying anything I want to hear. But Complex is not most 7 year-olds.

In stores...soonish?

DMZ VOLUME 7

I just finished Volume 6 of Brian Wood's DMZ. And like any good junkie, I'm already looking for my next fix. Brian Wood owns me. He's even made me like vikings with his Northlanders Series (Sorry, Dandelion).

Volume 7 of DMZ, titled War Powers, won't be released until September 8, 2009. It looks like I'll have some time to do some reading (I need to catch up on Northlanders) or better yet, some writing.

*Frustrated Sigh* September.

THE R.TAM SESSIONS

To coincide with the release of the Serenity movie a few years ago, Joss Whedon and tribe released this video on several fire sharing networks and any other random corner of the internet they could. They dropped this puppy off on the doorstep of the digital tests, with a note and a basket that would go on to be used to hold muffins or something.

The above video chronicles the downward spiral of the mental state of River Tam, leading to the condition she was in at the start of the Serenity movie.

What's A Girl To Do

I remember falling for this group when I first saw What's A Girl To Do on CurrentTV. Then my short term memory betrayed me and they slipped off my radar.

But today, I was wandering the streets of the internet and came across the video for their newest single, Daniel, and I was hit by a truck full of nostalgia, and helmed by a drunk driver. This video is clearly amazing. And it's causing me to daydream, which is always the sign of a good video or film.

I'm not sure if this is legit, but why not? Check it out. This video provides instructions for charging your iPod using only an onion and 2 cups of Gatorade (or Powerade). And a shot glass. Isn't there always a shot glass?

FREE NICK

Today I came across this blog, Freenick.net, by and about a man named Nick who find himself recovering from a crystal meth addiction. Hard times, high crimes.

I could point out that I first clicked the link because I connected the words "free nick" with the bag in the above image. But I won't.

REMOTE NEURAL MONITORING

I just saw this on a blog I started reading today. Apparently this sign is being posted around Palm Springs. It's...well, its crazy. And funny.

Here's the corresponding Google search

I'm sorry, but I didn't even see how I had a choice about whether to post this.

Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos. I need to find this on VHS.
GRAFFITI JAPAN

I just ordered a copy of the Graffiti Japan photography book, by Remo Camerota. It's worth picking up if you like (no, love) Japan, photography, graffiti, candid and action shots, and bright colors. I came across it by accident while Flickring images of Japan. Good thing I did.

NOTES ON A SCANDAL

I posted this comment on someone's blog a while back about the fact that I was leaving Heroes. I'm a little full of it, though because I sort of checked in the next week, hoping maybe Heroes was missing me enough that it was reflecting and trying to get its act together. That...was miles away from reality. So here's my comment about episode 15 of the third (and possible last) season of Heroes.

I just watched it on Hulu. I feel similar to a woman who received a diamond tennis bracelet and a black eye for her anniversary. I know I SHOULD leave, but I'm more than a bit materialistic. It wasn't half bad, which is to say that it wasn't half good, either. The last minute of the episode will make you want to drink lye. They managed to fall into a sinkhole approximately the same size as Isaac Mendez' loft, which apparently holds the most airtight lease in the history of real estate. It always bothered me that people kept doing things there, even though the place has been wired for sound and video since the first season. Everyone's seen the camera feed, but nobody ever goes over there until it's too late? And people still go back there to paint the future in an artsy, bohemian environment? Wow. This is a clusterfuck of continuity errors. I love the Heroes writers as people (when they showed up Daphne's apartment that she never cared to return to again), and we'll always have Paris , but I can't help but feel that they just don't care about my feelings. And if they don't care about mine, I can't care about theirs. I'll begin plotting my Heroes fanfic now.

PHOTOFUNIA

I've been editing photos of Yoshi (in his DINOSAUR logo incarnation) on Photofunia.

Good times, cool effects. I'm at a party though, so...blogging is frowned upon.

Anyway, Photofunia. Feel free to play with it.

TATUAJES

I found these tattoos in the Facebook group Tattoos and Tattoo Art's gallery. If you're going to get a superhero tattoo, this is the only way to do it. I'm still looking and hoping for an artist this talented.

NY77: THE COOLEST YEAR IN HELL

This documentary, chronicling the religious experience that was New York in 1977, is one of the most amazing docs I've ever seen in my short life. It's impossible to not be amazed and inspired by it. You can't start your life until you've watched it. Above is jsut a small taste.

SCIENTOLOGY PIRATES

The torrent site PirateBay seems to have jumped on the Scientology bandwagon. They're now offering a full range of links to materials related to the Church of Scientology, most of which are labeled as having been banned from somewhere.

THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE

A fanatical sect of Heath Ledger fans have set up a website and demanded that Ledger be the last Joker ever in film, in respect of his legacy and award-worthy performance. They've boarded themselves up in a newly-built fortress in the mountains of Wyoming (See what I did there?), and set up shrines to Heath, sacrificing all his former leading ladies (they killed Julia Styles twice), and started building nuclear weapons, which will launch if their demands are not met (not really).

But seriously, the sentiment is admirable and, yes, Heath's performanc in The Dark Night was creepy-good, but I honeslty don't see Hollywood adhering to this, even with the petitition. Oh yeah, there's a petition.

RUSSIAN ULTRA NATIONALISTS

The last time I posted about skinheads, they were Indonesia's version of the original "working class" skinheads. The kind who championed worker's rights. Sure those skinheads are the ones who gave rise to the first racist skinheads, but I doubt most of them knew it was leading to that.

These are the other skinheads.

In Russia, over the past few years, there's been an incredible upsurge in anti-immigrant sentiment and neo-nazi groups. At the center of this is the NSO, Russia's ultranationalist "political revolutionary" party. Think of them as the Super Saiyans of Nazism (yep, that's how its spelled). The NSO subscribe to pretty much the same ideals that started the original Nazis on their way. They feel threatened by what they see as an unlawfull occupancy of Russia by immigrants of all colors. They feel that most, if not all of their socioeconomic problems can be traced back to the brown people. This isn't made any better by the low priced (often free) college education that many immigrants, especially African ones, can receive in Russia.

They've begun a massive propaganda campaign utilizing everyone's favorite political tool, online flash videos (i.e. Youtube, Megavideo, etc). But instead of slandering the names of the brown people they consider their opponents, THEY BEAT THEM TO DEATH. And then there are the training camps.

Honestly, there's nothing I could say about this that the above video couldn't say better. So watch it. Beware.
